Dog Bite Case Interview

Dog attacks can cause serious injury and even death in some cases. Small children are especially vulnerable.

We represented a beautiful young girl who was viciously bitten in the face by a neighbor’s dog. The child was taken to the local children’s hospital and had to undergo hours of surgery following hundreds of sutures to her face. She suffered permanent scarring. The dog owner’s insurance company sought to have the case dismissed on the basis that the dog had not previously exhibited a vicious propensity – in New York, you have to prove that the dog had exhibited a vicious propensity prior to the attack in order to recover.

Our investigation revealed that the dog had exhibited vicious behavior prior to the attack on this young girl. We interviewed neighbors of the dog owner and obtained sworn statements indicating that the dog had chased the neighbors. In fact, some neighbors were afraid to come out of their homes when the dog was out. As a result of our efforts, we were able to obtain a significant settlement for this young girl. Money was set aside for future surgeries to reduce the scarring on her face and to provide for her future education.
